A Jakarta discussion with CFOs, finance leaders and procurement executives focused on a practical question: what has to be true for AI to improve spend management? In its LinkedIn recap, Cogniviti Labs says the conversation moved beyond AI hype toward control, decision intelligence and measurable outcomes.
The post cites a sobering estimate: nearly 95% of AI proofs of concept fail because the underlying data and training foundations are not ready. That figure is the post’s framing, but its operational point is clear: a promising model cannot compensate for information that is incomplete, inconsistent or poorly governed.
For procurement and finance teams, trusted data is the base layer. Supplier, category and transaction information needs clear ownership and governance before teams can rely on AI-supported recommendations. This work is less visible than a demo, yet it shapes whether a tool can be used responsibly in real decisions.
The second theme is workflow. The post argues that AI creates value when it is embedded across spend processes rather than added as a separate feature. An insight is useful when it reaches the person handling sourcing, procure-to-pay, invoicing or supplier collaboration at the point where action is possible.
The third theme is execution. Spend visibility alone does not ensure policy compliance or control. Leaders also need workflows that support the right action, make exceptions visible and give teams a way to follow through. The platform, process discipline and operating model have to work together.
That suggests a grounded way to approach AI: start with a real procurement or finance workflow, check data readiness, connect the relevant systems, and decide how people review and act on the results. Then measure the outcomes the organization cares about instead of treating a proof of concept as success by itself.
Cogniviti Labs’ post describes the Jakarta conversation as candid and practical, with leaders sharing challenges around spend leakage, risk, compliance and productivity. Its central lesson is that technology can accelerate transformation, while results depend on how clean data, integrated systems and disciplined execution are put into operation.
